6 Days in New York: A Borough-by-Borough Plan
From Manhattan to Brooklyn with time to live it, not just see it.
New York can chew you up if you sprint everywhere. This route separates the days by area and always leaves room to sit down: bagel on a plastic table, coffee in a bookstore, pickup basketball game.
The subway is your friend — tap with OMNY or any contactless card. Pre-book Top of the Rock or Edge at sunset and the Statue of Liberty crown.
Distances are tricky: Central Park is huge and walking Broadway in flip-flops is a bad idea. Good shoes, water always on you.

Key tips
- Book the early-morning Liberty Island ferry.
- Top of the Rock at sunset usually beats the Empire State view.
- Met admission is pay-what-you-wish for NY residents only — visitors pay full price.
- Use Resy for restaurant reservations, often available same day.
- Carry a hoodie even in summer — subway and museum AC is intense.
- A combined DUMBO + Williamsburg day works really well.
Frequently asked
Is New York safe?
Yes, in tourist areas. Apply common sense: watch your stuff on late-night trains, avoid empty parks late.
Worth seeing a Broadway show?
Absolutely, at least one. Buy at TKTS Times Square same-day for 30-50% off, or reserve a month ahead for the hottest shows.
Do I need cash?
Rarely. Cards cover everything including tips. Keep $50-80 in cash just in case.
Is Brooklyn worth a day?
Hugely. Brooklyn shifts the pace and gives you cafés, markets and skyline views you won't get from Manhattan.
